Pre-requisites: Undergraduate degree in history, regular class attendance and fulfillment of all academic obligations.

Course objectives: Expanding and deepening knowledge gained during undergraduate studies while practicing independent critiquing of sources and literature.

Course description: During the theoretical component, we will analyze the origins and roots of nationalism, yugoslavian identity, democracy, communism and fascism, forms and consequences of these ideologies, specific characteristics of certain ideologies that were exclusive to the territories of Yugoslavia, leaders and followers, longevity, crises, ideology disappearance, renewal and holistic influence/value for the history of Yugoslavian people in the twentieth century. The objective for the practical component will be to enable students to use their skills to independently locate sources, critically and professionally analyze and interpret them, suggest new directions for research, offer methodological solutions to problems and write historical papers.

Learning Outcomes: Over the course students will strengthen their knowledge on the subject through working with historical sources and literature, identifying complex issues, using the critical approach, adopting professional dialogue, researching and writing their first serious historical papers.
