Creating a Dissertation

Course description: The condition for creating a dissertation is for all eight doctorate level exams to be passed, along with an accepted and defended doctoral thesis application completed. The expectation is for students to contribute to the scientific body of works and discipline: in developing the scientific method or discovering and exposing new data and facts relevant to the progress of a theory, formulating new theoretical hypotheses, or innovative theoretical interpretations of already existing scientific material. A successful doctoral thesis will combine more than one of the above mentioned requirements. The doctoral thesis will contain: theoretical-hypothetical component; analytical component; and conclusion, in which the student will prove or refute hypotheses and will connect his/her work to earlier literature on the subject, along with an obligatory complete list of relevant works cited. At the dissertation defense, the student should be prepared and able to defend and substantiate his/her conclusions during critical examination by committee members.
