Course objectives:

Course description: Place based development is taken as new paradigm of sustainable development in EU. The concepts of social production of space, territorialisation and territorial capital, place (re)branding, smart cities, compact cities, etc., are linked to four pillars of sustainability (economic, culture, social, ecological) in order to develop an analytical frame to sustainable local development. Going through diverse policy documents and strategies aims at discussion of (in) adequacy of sustainable development indicators at the local level, as well as for detecting dominant strategic approaches, such as social learning and innovation. Relevant data from Serbia are compared to other contexts.
