Course objectives:

Course description: The course relays on basic methodological and theoretical approaches developed in rural sociology. Peasants and peasantry as actors with specific action potential and stratification characteristics are studied in different historical and social contexts, with special emphasis on Serbian society. The new paradigm of integrated rural development is examined through the lenses of modernization based on industrialization approach, that has caused not only huge development misbalances between urban and rural areas but also sever ecological problems, particularly strengthened with contemporary globalization. In that sense, special attention is given to the notions of rural metabolism and new peasantry in searching for alternative modes of social development.
