Pre-requisites: Elementary insights in the history of Western music (classical and popular). If the number of applicants for this course is too high, sociology students and students with a high grade point average will be given precedence.

Course objectives: The main objective of this course is to enable better comprehesion of the relationship between music and contemporary society – especially in Serbia.

Course description: This course introduces students to the basic problems and issues of the sociology of music and presents itself as a foundation for understanding more complex social issues related to the production, performance, spreading and listening to music.

Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course, students should be capable of understanding music as a social phenomenon.
