Course objectives: The objective of this course is for students to be introduced to contemporary inclinations of socio-economic change in post-socialist and modern capitalist countries.

Course description: The first part of this course is comprised of examining basic mechanisms of the market of goods and services, the labor market and financial sector in ex-socialist countries and consequently, reasons why the move to a market economy was inevitable. The second part of the course deals with themes on the role and structure of modern financial markets, which, presently, are quintessential mechanisms of movement in distribution of capital with international proportions. Finally, we will conduct comparative analysis of socialist and neo-liberal doctrine and contemporary economic ideas about the relation of society & the public sector-market.

Learning Outcomes: Students will possess knowledge of mechanisms of the functioning market economy in post-socialist societies after the socialist transformation – market commodities and services, financial market and the labor market.
