Pre-requisites: Knowledge of classical social theory, introduction to sociology as well as: understanding a foreign language (most relevant – English) and computer and internet research skills

Course objectives: For students to comprehend the uniqueness of population as a phenomenon, as created by the aggregating of individuals united by a social framework (global society) which imposes ways and degrees of relationship and connection between various factors and characteristics of populations.

Course description: This course encompasses studying elements of demographics and change. In other words, the interaction between demographic structures and processes with cultural & historic developments. Students will learn about multiple elements of demography, including the characteristics of natural(birth and death rates, population growth) and mechanical (migratory) changes in populations; the effect of post-modernism on populations and vice versa, in other words, the influence demographic structure and processes have on social change.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this course, students should be able to independently work with statistical tables and materials related to demography and statistics by applying their knowledge on demographic trends, processes and developments to their sociological imagination and general knowledge of culture.
