Course objectives: • Review and analysis of the theoretical and methodological problems in comparative education; • Systematic investigation of the basic characteristics of the education systems and their development trends; • Critical appraisal of implementing different solutions for the educational quality improvement based on comparative evidence.

Course description: Theoretical course: The role and function of comparative education. Methodological approaches to comparative studies in education. Overview of educational systems of different countries: similarities and differences. Curriculum policies. Quality assurance and evaluation. Equity and equality in education. Teacher education and development. Global flows and networks in education. EU education policy and its impact on national education systems. Possibilities and limitations of implementing practices from different socio-economic and cultural contexts.

Learning Outcomes: Students should be able to: • understand the theoretical and methodological basis of comparative studies in education; • identify and explore key education policy issues and trends in EU education systems development; • critically explore possibilities and limitations of the policy-borrowing approach.
