Pre-requisites: For attending the course, students should have passed the exam in Communication Skills. Knowledge from the following courses is useful: Psychology of Perception, Emotions and Motivation, Social Perception and Interaction and Peace Psychology.

Course objectives: Mediation is a course designed to enable psychology students to perceive strengths and limitations of mediation in relation to other alternative ways of resolving conflicts and identify the types of conflicts and the environmental conditions under which mediation is possible. The course enables students to understand the function and role of mediators in the process of mediation.

Course description: 1. Mediation as a way of resolving conflicts 2. Areas of mediation use worldwide 3. Mediation in educational institutions/school 4. Advantages and limitations of using mediation 5. The function and role of mediators 6. Code of proffesional conduct for mediators 7. Three basic models of mediation 8. The phases of mediation 9. Typical problems in mediation and mediator interventions 9. Ethical and other open issues in mediation 10. Prospects for development of mediation.

Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will have acquired basic skills in conflict mediation and will be able to apply them in different contexts.
