Crisis Intervention

Pre-requisites: Psychology and Mental Health, General psychopathology, Fundamentals of psychotherapy and counseling.

Course objectives: Acquiring modern psychological knowledge about theories, methods and techniques of crisis intervention, as well as research findings, training and supervision in this area.

Course description: The course consists of a general and a special part. The general section contains: theories, methods and techniques of crisis intervention; overview of the different models of crisis intervention (at the of individual, familiy, group and community level); a review of crisis intervention research as well as specificities of training and supervision for this form of psychological help. In the special section different forms of crisis interventions in specific situations are being considered, including cases of illness and death loss, violence, suicide and suicide attempts, while reflecting on the possible professional and personal crisis that the therapist himself can face.

Learning Outcomes: Mastering basic knowledge and skills of crisis intervention at the individual, family, group and community levels; mastering the strategies of crisis intervention in specific crisis situations, recognition, rehabilitation and prevention of the burnout syndrome.
