Course objectives: Introduction into the basic theoretical-methodological problems of comparative education; acquisition of knowledge about the basic characteristics of school systems from the comparative perspective; understanding the modern tendencies in the European countries’ school systems development.

Course description: Theoretical course: The subject of comparative education studying. Goals and tasks of comparative education. Comparative education in the system of educational disciplines. Methodological approaches to comparative studying (research) of education. Determinants of school system development. The structure, organization and the way of functioning of school systems in foreign countries (levels and cycles of education, goals of education, educational programmes, management in education, financing the education, education and specialization of teachers). Indicators of state of development and functioning of school systems in foreign countries. Tendencies and trends of development of school systems in European countries. The possibilities and limitations of solutions implementation which derive from different social-economical and cultural context. Practical course: /

Learning Outcomes: Students are familiar with: - theoretical-methodological basis of comparative studying (research) of education – similarities and differences in the structure and organization of school systems in foreign countries - current tendencies and perspectives of European school systems’ development.
