Course objectives: 1. Acquiring knowledge and developing critical attitudes toward ethnographic material and theoretical approaches in the study of folk religion; 2. Understanding the mutual relationship and influences in between vernacular and official religions, developing the skills for perception of religious phenomena and their relationship and denotation in a broader historical and cultural context

Course description: Subject topics include: theoretical classes: 1.Determening the concept of folk religion 2.Sources for the study of folk religion 3.Previos research 4.General features a folk religion) Social and economic framework b) Main stages of development c) Foreign influences 5.Religious representations a) Types of religious representation b) objects of religious representation c) Urban beliefs and magic in the urban culture In practical lectures: 6.Religious practices and holiday culture a) Commemorative rituals b) Periodic rituals c) New Rituals

Learning Outcomes: Training students for independent research, understanding and interpretation of religious phenomena. Developing critical thought of different religious traditions in Serbia
