Pre-requisites: The course is to be attended by students that have been enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor’s degree majoring in history of Art during their second semester.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is to introduce to students the fundamentals of arts and visual cultures of the new century.

Course description: Within the course, students will study the fundamentals necessary for understanding the visual cultures of the new century. Students will become familiar the most important hypothetical realizations of visual cultures and fundamental methodological interpretations. Lectures will be used to emphasize the importance of art theory in creating and interpreting artistic practice, and the relationship between the theory and the actual piece of art. The special attention will be paid to introducing the new forms of visual speech and basic concepts of academic picture. The concept of the course also includes the interpretation of the term visual culture using different European and Serbian examples.

Learning Outcomes: The course is designed with the idea to prepare students majoring in History of Art for practical work in area concerning visual cultures of the new century during their second, third and fourth year of their Bachelor’s degree.
